AUTO-CODE is initiated by selecting the NC Generator option from the AutoCAD pull down menu.

What happens next depends on how your AUTO-CODE software is set up for your machine tool programming requirements.

Post Processor (Interface) Selection: If you have two or more machine interfaces in the AUTO-CODE posts directory, then they will be displayed in a file selection dialog box. If there is only one machine interface in the posts folder then AUTO-CODE starts with it immediately and proceeds to the next set up question.
Zero point location: Your model may have the zero point located anywhere. Machine operations require the setting of an initial zero to relate the CAD drawing to the machine tool work area. The zero points may match already in which case the default value of 0,0,0 can be used. If your machine tool zero point is elsewhere on the drawing it can be located using the pointing device or you may type in the coordinate values.

Program Header: Not all machine interfaces require a program header or starting sequence, but most will. The header normally consists of the program number (internal at the machine tool), descriptive comments, initial power or tool settings, and so forth. The contents can vary depending on your program interface requirements. All of the same interfaces provided with the AUTO-CODE software include header information.

Automatic Run: When drawing standards are strictly enforced and relate directly to the manufacturing process it is possible to have AUTO-CODE automatically process the drawing into a machine tool program. Automatic interfaces tend to be very focused such as drilling operations (locate circles on particular layers) or centerline cutting (locate all polylines). Automatic interfaces also have the highest return on investment.
Do your processing requirements fit an automatic solution? If you can define the geometry selection sequence in general AutoCAD operator terms and have good drawing standards (and quality) then it is likely an automatic solution may work well for you.
